Public Speaking and Media
On February 3 my blog post on SFU’s Sweater Day attracted a lot of media attention. It was reprinted in Inside Education, and print stories appeared on CBC‘s webpage, The Independent, BuzzFeed, Huffington Post, Jezebel, The Province, Global News, USAToday and SFU’s student newspaper The Peak. I was interviewed on CBC radio’s “On the Coast”:
In February I’ll be giving the 2016 Southampton Stonewall Lecture at the University of Southampton in the UK, titled “Lesbian Life Stories: Stuck in the Past? On the Archives of Lesbian Oral Testimonies (ALOT).” I will also be sharing aspects of my research on the history of same-sex marriage at Oxford University in a talk titled “Freak Wedding! A Long History of Homonormativity.”
In April I’ll be offering the keynote talk at the 2016 Foothills Colloquium in Undergraduate History.
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University features short videos on a variety of different courses on offer. Here I describe my 100-level Introduction to the History of Sexuality.
In 2015 Diana Soloman and I, she as the recipient of the 2014 SFU Excellence in Teaching Award winner and I as a recipient of the FASS Cormack Teaching Award, presented a collaborative talk exploring aspects of our approach to teaching.
The 2014 History Department’s public lecture series explored “History in the Headlines.” My talk put the ongoing debate about screening films funded by the Israeli government at queer film festivals in the context of the history of gay liberation.
